For Galo was composed around 2001. This arrangement for string orchestra with optional rhythm section dates from around 2018. This is a slow jazz waltz with quite a long form. Nothing is terribly difficult. The blowing section consists of only 4 chords (F minor, C major, Bb minor and F major). This is a great piece for beginning players.
I wrote this composition in 2016 for a local performance. As a hybrid structure, it uses the “classical” orchestration to present the more extended thematic material. However, there is a middle section which is written for jazz quartet, with an open blowing structure. The piece closes with a recapitulation of the opening classical themes.
This is another piece composed for the BMI Jazz Composer’s Orchestra. This piece is in ¾ time and is built on the opening piano motive.The harmonic structure is challenging but approachable by a university jazz ensemble. This is a very lyrical piece of music. The orchestration includes quite a bit of writing for flutes and clarinets.
