The Paula Hanke Group performs in a variety of styles running the gamut from Latin, Brazilian, to Swing, Funk, Soul and more. The group features saxophone, voice, piano, drums and acoustic bass.
Paula has been performing professionally since right out of high school. Born and raised in Wisconsin, she started playing classical piano and alto sax at age ten. Singing eventually became her focus after she was quickly accepted into several young performing troupes in the Mid-West, at Disney, and the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater in Florida.
For seven years Paula toured the US and abroad with Coast to Coast, a Top 40 Showband. Willie Nelson and members of his group, joined her and the band on stage after hours, jamming for several nights in a row while staying in the same hotel outside of Miami. After an appearance on Star Search '88, Paula made NYC her home for fifteen years where she performed in local venues from the Plaza Hotel to the Bitter End. One of her bands was invited to entertain at a prestigious private event outside of Philadelphia, sharing the program with James Taylor. She has toured extensively, playing in clubs and showrooms in Tokyo, Bermuda, Munich, Saudi Arabia, the Virgin Islands, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and Atlantic City. Paula has also performed for Joan Rivers, Al Hirt, Jamie Farr, and Charlie Callas.
Hanke's voice can be heard on countless recordings and demos including Heartbrake (We 'B' Records), Helix (Capitol Records), IK Multimedia-'Sample-Tank', for Mondo Melodies, Earthbubble Music, and Triple Crown Music. She occasionally sings back-up for the alternative hip-hop supergroup Deltron 3030, and is a member of the BJ Leiderman (NPR theme-song writer) Band. Paula performs on Cruise Lines, Jazz Clubs and at New Thought churches around the country. Her debut CD, The Only Voice, has been called, "remarkably eclectic and deeply heartfelt."
Happily settled in the beautiful, artsy mountain resort of Asheville NC, Paula continues to travel, perform, write, and record.
